This 4K vlog was filmed in November 2023. Anyone who is interested in Northeastern University can gain a lot from viewing this vlog since I covered the majority of the campus and mentioned most of the areas that I didn’t film. I filmed this on a Sunday on a windy and chilly day so it was a lot less populated than it would be on a school day.
Education is a major key to success, but it historically has been filled with many obstacles for people with disabilities. This unfortunate fact is especially true for higher education. Many campuses were not built with accessibility in mind, and unfortunately many universities do not prioritize making their campuses more accessible either.
Unless you live nearby, visiting a college campus can cost a lot of money from traveling costs to parents taking time off of work. So hopefully this vlog proves to be a useful resource, especially if you have a disability.
Overall, I felt like like Northeastern University was the most accessible campus that I personally toured, and this heavily weighed into my decision to attend the school. However, it has even over 7 years since I have attended, so I thought that it was important to talk to present day students.
Emma and Alexa were gracious enough to answer some questions for the vlog. They represent the NU Diversability Alliance organization which is Northeastern’s Disability Justice club. This club was not around when I was a student, so I am happy that disability is now being represented more strongly on campus. As a commuter, I never felt too connected to the Northeastern Community, and I believe that this club would have helped. Make sure to check out this interview towards the end of the vlog. Not only do they discuss Northeastern specifically, but they offer some advice for disabled high school students who are thinking about college.
I hope to make this a series, so let me know any colleges in the Boston area that you are interested in seeing!
