The Boston Public Library (@BostonPublicLibraryOfficial)! Like all libraries, it's an under-appreciated gem, but there's something special about the Boston Public Library. Founded in 1852, it was the first large free municipal library in the United States, the first public library to lend books, the first to have a branch library, and the first to have a children's room.
This tour takes you from the original part of the library which highlights why Boston is considered one of the most "European" cities in America to the newer part of the library with all its offerings. The original part is full of artwork and marble all around, and it's study hall looks straight out of Harry Potter. You can even get high tea in the Courtyard Tea Room or Map Room Tea Lounge.
The newer part of the library has so many offerings including The Newsfeed Café, MassEdCO Education & Career Planning Center, and a Business Library & Innovation Center. I have spent time in this business center in their InnoLab using the green screen media room. Reserving these rooms is free! They also have all the top softwares for free use for so many different needs from podcasting to investing (Bloomberg Terminal).
Both entrances to the library are accessible, and it is accessible throughout the library.
Outside of one entrance is a memorial commemorating the victims of the Boston Marathon Bombing. The finish line to the Boston Marathon is paved in blue and yellow outside of the library on Boylston Street. The vlog includes a quick look inside Marathon Sports which is across the street from the library. Aside from selling running gear, they also sell Boston Strong apparel.
I also detail many freebies and benefits that you can get with a Boston Library Card. These include free passes to many Massachusetts museums and online access to services through the library's website.
If you are ever in Boston, I definitely recommend a stop into the Boston Public Library! If you aren't visiting any time soon, look into your local library and whether your state has an "official" main library like the Boston Public Library for Massachusetts so that you can get the most free benefits possible.
Clearly, I love libraries. Where else can you go that expects you to spend nothing but offers so much?!
We ended this vlog with a quick trip to Newbury Street to get some cookies from Levain Bakery!
